Need experience to get a job? Build up your resume at Yahara House! The daily activity of a Clubhouse is organized around a structured system known as the work-ordered day, Monday through Friday, 8:30-4:30. Members are free to choose the hours in which they work. Members and staff work side by side, as colleagues, to perform the work necessary to keep the clubhouse running. Members volunteer to participate as they feel ready and according to their individual interests and strengths. Working at Yahara House can be listed as volunteer employment on a resume, and staff can serve as references.
Work and Education Support Dinner: All members are welcome to attend the work and education support dinner. Get tips about finding a job, problem solving on a job, or going back to school from your colleagues. Dinner is served on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Call in advance for a home delivery of food, or just sign on to our Zoom channel around 4:30 pm.
Ready to enter the workforce? As a right of membership, Clubhouses provide members with opportunities to return to paid employment in integrated work settings through Transitional Employment Placement, Supported Employment, and Independent Employment programs.
Who can I ask for help? The first person to talk to is your service facilitator or other contact person at Yahara House. While they can provide basic help, they can also help you hook up with Job Squad. Job Squad is the group within Yahara House that provides job coaching as well as assistance in job hunting and resume writing, etc. You can also approach a member of job squad yourself; talk to Tyler or Aaron. If you are interested in a TEP, see the job board on the second floor for upcoming openings. Be sure to get in touch with the placement managers one or two months before the opening is scheduled to be filled again.
Transitional Employment Placement (TEP) is an arrangement between Yahara House and local businesses to employ members. Members who will work a TEP do not need to interview with the employer nor do they need to submit a resume. TEP employees are chosen by the staff who are placement managers for the TEP. Transitional Employment Placements are at the employer’s place of business, are part-time (4-20 hours per week), and include on-the-job and off-site support from Clubhouse colleagues for as long as you need help. These placements last from six to nine months. Members can then try another placement or move on to supported or independent employment. Transitional Employment is specifically designed as a vocational rehabilitation program where a member can gain or re-gain the skills and confidence necessary to have a job while he or she is employed in a “real world” position.
Supported Employment is a program of the Clubhouse through which members, when ready, are helped by the Clubhouse to seek and obtain a job of their own. This is a job the employee will keep indefinitely. Members in the work force who develop problems on the job, and would benefit from a job coach, are also eligible. The job coach will help the member at the place of employment and in the clubhouse until the member is confident things are working out well and the employer is satisfied with their performance.

Independent Employment Members who do not need help finding a job or who are already employed, can receive support from Yahara House. If there is on-site support we would consider that Supported Employment. If there is no on-site support at the place of business, members can still receive support and encouragement at the Clubhouse whenever needed from Job Squad or by working directly with their service facilitator or from other colleagues.
